Proof-of-concept (POC) is usually a fairly brief demonstration of a particular method or idea that may be the most appropriate way to approach and develop a project. It can demonstrate the feasibility of a solution or, just as importantly, point up flaws or challenges at an early stage.
When engaging in a new project, it is important that the development of one or more POC systems be considered before settling on the architecture and design of the final deliverables. Development of a POC system should provide a clear understanding of requirements, the capabilities and limitations of a specific technology and the first suggestions of a ‘look and feel’ of the overall design
At Affinity we use the POC approach to demonstrate the nature of our partnership working approach and to dramatically lower the overall risk of the project running into difficulty or over-running on cost. It is important that the features incorporated into a POC system are clearly defined to both customer and development team. The POC system is not a stage in the actual development process nor an early version of the final deliverable.
